Tanagra Newsletter            November 2010

Hi,

Welcome to our November newsletter keeping you up to date with the activities in our winery and on the farm:

Wines
New Tanagra label! Finally we've released our new label. It features the giant Tanagra Wild Fig Tree and makes some connection between the name 'Tanagra' and the tree. Many friends in McGregor have contributed in one way or the other and helped us turn this into a truly personal label. The new label now features our New Rose Wine and all other newly released wines (see also below).

  • The first 2010 wine is available now: a dry, elegant and lean Rosé made of 100% Cabernet Franc, wild-yeast fermented.
  • A lovely spring and summer wine. We only made 300 bottles of this Rosé and it's going very quickly.
We've just released 'new' batches of Felicity (2005, 2006) - a Bordeaux style blend, Carah (2005, 2006) - a Shiraz-based blend, and Heavenly Chaos (2006). These traditional and handcrafted red wines need time to open up and they are only now starting to do so. The Heavenly Chaos 2006 is very 'unchaotic' as this time it is a blend of 2 varieties only - Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), very mellow.

New price list

With the release of the 'new' wines we restructured our pricelist. Special bargain sales available to make space for the 2010 red wines, which we will bottle soon.
  • Sample cases available (with further discount on already discounted prices) - get to know the (new) Tanagra wines:
  • 1 case (6 bottles) containing 1 bottle of the newly released Tanagra wines (Cabernet Franc Rosé, Felicity 2005, Felicity 2006, Carah 2005, Carah 2006, Heavenly Chaos 2006) - pay R 200 instead of R 225.
  • 2 cases (12 bottles) containing 1 bottle of each Tanagra wine available. Pay R 475 instead of R 520.
  • You might also consider getting one of each Felicity - the Felicity 2003, Felicity 2004, Felicity 2005 and Felicity 2006 - and do a 'vertical wine-tasting' comparing the different vintages.

If you cannot come and visit us on the farm for a wine-tasting ordering a sample case is a good way of tasting the new wines. We are working with a delivery service which charges very reasonable fees - for example only  R14.25 per case to Cape Town (with a minimum fee of R28.50 for two cases for each delivery)

Distillery
For the Hands-on-Harvest Festival we will do a hands-on demonstration of distilling Grappa at the Tanagra distillery on Friday (25 February 2011) and Saturday (26 February 2011) afternoon (14h00 - 16h00). Costs: R75pp, including snacks, wine and grappa tasting.  Only limited places available (20 for each session), so book soon.

Accommodation
Come and stay in one of our cottages or apartments. Our place is now filling up for the Christmas holidays, and there are only a few places left. So don't wait if you'd like to get away for the holidays. Summer in the McGregor valley can be really lovely if you can relax under the shade of our giant wild fig tree in the garden or cool down in the pool or in the dam.

We'd be delighted to welcome you (back) at Tanagra, either for tasting our new wines and our grappas or for staying in our accommodation - or both.

Kind regards,
Anette and Robert
